The Lighting Program & the IES Student Chapter cordially invites you to:

Cultural Light : The Instinctive and the Indigenous

A presentation by Charles Stone

A career in lighting design knows no national borders. We go where the work takes us to many cites across continents and at times delve deeply into local cultural mores and business practices. This talk will explore the similarities and differences in how various cultures perceive, feel, express, and realize light in the built environment. Some effects and preferences seem to be instinctive, while others are unique and indigenous. A sensitive understanding of these attributes will enrich our appreciation of the luminous environment and make us better ambassadors of light.
