Lighting Design: An Inside Look

Join us for a conversation with Suzan Tillotson, founding partner of Tillotson Design Associates. Suzan will outline her process for exploring a design and will walk the attendees through this process using previous projects as case studies. She will present the project criteria and challenges faced with the design, the inspiration for the solutions, and the process for their implementation.

Agenda: 5:00 PM - Dinner and Networking Hour, 6:00 PM - Presentation

Pricing: FREE for students, $10 for IES members, $25 for non-members

Parking: Guests for the event will be able to purchase a discounted parking pass for Lot 436 in advance here. There is also short term paid parking available along Regent Drive and in Lot 440.

About the Speaker:

Suzan Tillotson, Lighting Designer and President/Founder of Tillotson Design Associates

Suzan Tillotson is a founding partner of Tillotson Design Associates, a 25-person lighting design firm based in New York City. Ms. Tillotson has been a keynote speaker, lectured and taught at numerous lighting events, and universities, including Cornell, Dalhousie, McGill, LSU, University of Arkansas, and Princeton University. She was the recipient of the LSU College of Art and Design Distinguished Alumni Award where she gave the commencement address. Suzan was awarded the Lighting Designer of the Year at the 2017 Lighting Design Awards in London and in 2018 she was awarded the International Dark Sky Association’s Lighting Design and Technology Award. Tillotson Design Associates was named Architizer’s A+ Lighting Design Firm of 2021. TDA’s prestigious client list includes nine Pritzker prize winning architects: Rem Koolhaas, Herzog & de Meuron, Norman Foster, SANAA, Thom Mayne, Renzo Piano, Christian de Portzamparc, Frank Gehry, and Shigeru Ban.

TDA has designed the lighting for a wide variety of award-winning domestic and international projects, most notably, the Bloomberg European Headquarters in London, the Broad in LA, the New Museum in NYC, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater in Dallas, TX; Lincoln Center, Barclays Center, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
